How Derby pupils are helping families struggling with cost of living crisis

A massive well done to all those involved in this important project

Generous Derby students have been busy helping those in their school community who are struggling with the cost of living crisis.

Year eight and 10 pupils at Murray Park Community School in Mickleover delivered food parcels to families currently finding it difficult to cope financially.

The food was donated to the school by parents and other locals.

Jan Woolley, who oversaw the scheme, said: “Once again Murray Park has organised food bank deliveries to some of our families for the start of the summer holiday.

“It is really pleasing to see students and their families wanting to help other students’ families in the current economic situation.

“We have delivered 31 food parcels to Murray Park families during the last week of term. Rhianna Murray, Peyton Giles, Maryam Alam and Pakeeza Noor (all year 10) were shining stars sorting out all the parcels ready for delivery, assisted by other students in year 10 and year eight.”

School staff also gave up their time to help with deliveries.

Tim Taylor, Murray Park’s careers co-ordinator, added: “The students have been amazing in helping Miss Woolley to organise the food parcels.

“Miss Woolley has been truly amazing once again in organising the co-ordination of the whole operation, so thank you and a massive well done.”
