Greggs to open new factory in Derby - creating hundreds of jobs for the area
British bakery chain Greggs is set to open a new factory in Derby.

Hide AdIt will be based at SmartParc SEGRO, a food manufacturing and distribution campus in Spondon.
The new site is part of the high street chain’s plans to boost its logistics and manufacturing arms.
The building is currently in development. Installation of equipment is planned between 2025 and 2026.

Hide AdIt is thought ‘hundreds of jobs’ will be created when the plant is completed and fully operational in 2027.
Speaking to BBC, a Greggs spokesperson said: "We're delighted to confirm Greggs has entered into an agreement for lease for a new state-of-the-art frozen production and logistics site at SmartParc SEGRO Derby, in line with the company's longer-term growth plans.
"The purpose-built facility will be the focus of Greggs' increased manufacturing capacity needs whilst also supporting the expansion of the company's logistics network."

Hide AdLocal councillors Jonathan Smale, Nicola Roulstone and Chris Poulter welcomed the news, saying ‘around 500 new jobs’ would be created.
Councillor Baggy Shanker, leader of Derby City Council, said: "Greggs is such a well-known brand and choosing Derby as the location for the expansion of their operations shows how renowned our city is as a centre for innovation and manufacturing.”
Greggs joins another high profile name HelloFresh at SmartParc SEGRO.

Hide AdThe meal-kit company has made Derby home to its flagship automated production facility in Spondon.
Councillor Baggy Shanker added: "The arrival of another national company to SmartParc is the latest in a long line of positive developments at the site which will bring further good quality, sustainable jobs and increase opportunities for our citizens."
Greggs expansion in East Midlands with second factory plan
Greggs is planning a land purchase near Kettering and Corby to build a National Distribution Centre for chilled products.

Hide AdThe Greggs May 2024 trading update said: ‘The Corby/Kettering site will significantly extend our logistics capacity across the network to circa 3,500 shops and deliver efficiencies through semi-automated storage and picking solutions.
‘We aim to exchange contracts on the purchase of the land in the coming months.’
The two new East Midlands projects are part of Greggs plans to add more outlets to high streets, bringing the total to 160 by the close of 2024.
