New plastic-free market launches an hour from Derby selling food, crafts and jewellery

Sustainability can be a daunting topic to explore, and if you’re wondering how you can try to ‘be more green’ then a new market could be just the answer.
A new Plastic Free Market is launching at Trafalgar Warehouse in Sheffield, one hour away from Derby.

Hide AdIt aims to be a ‘one-stop shop for helping people reduce their single-use plastics and transition to a Plastic Free lifestyle.’
It will be run by sustainability community organisation, Sheffield Action on Plastic.
The event involves all the elements of a regular market, except that there will be no single-use plastics at the event.
This means no plastic packaging for products on craft stalls, no plastic bags, and no disposable plastic cups for drinks.

Hide AdChair of the group, Greg Hewitt, said: "I've lived in Sheffield over the last two years, visiting some of the excellent markets that happen in the city.
“However I've been frustrated seeing stalls selling products wrapped in plastic, as well as disposable single-use plastic cups used for drinks.
“So I went away with an ambition to run a Plastic Free Market.
“I'm now really proud to have found some amazing businesses who are not using single-use plastics.

The event sponsored by TravelMaster, will be held at Trafalgar Warehouse on Trafalgar Street in Sheffield city centre.
Not only has the venue been hugely popular recently, with the Pete McKee exhibition and the Indie Beer Fest, but they also use reusable cups at their bar, which are all washed and reused event after event.

Alongside craft traders will be street food sold in plastic-free packaging, as well as live music from local musicians.
