Project D is rolling out its latest creation, which it describes as the 'UK's most luxurious doughnut'.

The jaw-dropping item - which has a diameter of around 1ft - sounds like a doughnut lover's dream.

The heart-shaped treat lives up to its name (24 Karat Magic Love Heart Mega.)

It is covered with 24-carat edible gold leaf and has a pure Belgian white chocolate base.

It is topped with an array of sugary delights including KitKat, Lion Bar, Malteser Bar, White Terry’s Chocolate Orange, gold Belgian chocolate callets and caramel crunch balls.

The final flourish is an edible gold lustre spray to give it that added wow factor.

It sounds like a labour of love which some would say, is perfect for the most romantic day of the year.

The labour-intensive process means each doughnut takes around six hours to produce.

What’s inside the doughnut counts too, and Project D has pulled a blinder by creating an added twist to the doughnut… a melted Caramac-inspired gold filling.

Fans of the beloved confectionery Caramac may feel like doing cartwheels of joy.

The chocolate was discontinued in 2023, despite a petition that garnered over 30,00 signatures and left thousands of Caramac fans heartbroken when it disappeared from the shelves.

Project D has created its own Caramac-inspired flavour and filled its Valentine’s Day doughnut with it.

How to get a hold of Project D mega Valentine’s Day doughnut

The mega doughnut costs £29.95 and will be available for a limited period of three or four days in the run-up to Valentine’s Day.

It can only be purchased online.

There is also a raft of other Love Heart Mega doughnuts available from £15.95 in flavours including zingy lemon and brownie.

Max Poynton, one of Project D’s three co-founders, said: “Valentine’s Day is our favourite time of year at Project D, it allows us to go just that little bit crazy!

“Last year’s Valentine’s was probably our most successful period ever.

“Nothing says 'Happy Valentine’s Day' better than a heart – so what can be better than a giant, gold-covered heart that also tastes like heaven?

“February is always a bumper month for us, and it’s no wonder as our doughnuts make the perfect gift. "

“Everyone is going to want to get their hands on one of these, and anyone lucky enough to receive one from their ‘significant other’ will know that love is truly in the air.”

Max said that “very limited numbers” of the 24-Karat Magic Love Heart Mega would be available this year due to the lengthy manufacturing process, so he predicted they would sell out extremely quickly.

He added: “There are additional products to our Valentine’s Day offerings this year to make it extra special, so we have loads of other fantastic and tasty items for our love-struck customers to buy – both online and in our stores in York, Nottingham, Heathrow Airport Terminal 2 and Meadowhall shopping centre in Sheffield."
