New Derby Market Hall first look photos show traders gearing up for busy opening weekend in Derbyshire

Derby Market Hall is set to reopen this weekend, showcasing a diverse range of stalls following a £35.1m revamp.

Derby Market Hall is set to open its doors this weekend and DerbyWorld was invited for a first look behind the scenes.

The Grade II listed Victorian market hall in Derby city centre has been closed since 2021, following a revamp that started in 2017.

It will open to the public on Saturday, May 24, 2025 at 11am.

Traders have moved into the grand building and are putting final touches to their stalls and kiosks.

There is a diverse offering including boutique shops, craft jewellery makers, a vibrant food and drink offering, and more.

The opening day marks a special milestone; it is almost 159 years to the day (May 29, 1866) when the market hall was officially declared open by Mayor Frederick Longdon.

On opening day, a ribbon will be cut by the mayor and Leader of Derby City Council, followed by short speeches.

Also in attendance will be Derby City Council’s CEO, the MPs for Derby North and South, and other representatives who have been instrumental in the transformation of the revitalised Market Hall.

Location: Derby Market Hall, Osnabruck Square entrance, off Tennant Street, Derby DE1 2DB
