In 2016 Liam Virgo was left suddenly paralysed and unable to talk. He was diagnosed with FND also known as Functional Neurological Disorder when he was just 13.

FND is a condition which affects how the brain receives and sends information to the rest of the body. Nine years on, Liam is slowly starting to recover and he wants to raise awareness of this life changing illness.

He was unable to walk for five years, was bedridden for three years and couldn’t talk for a year. He described feeling trapped inside his own body. He also says it was like being awake in a body that had stopped working. Eventually Liam’s FND symptoms improved. His story was featured on BBC East Midlands Today back in January. Liam says that he’s now hoping to raise awareness about FND as there’s been times his illness has been misunderstood due to lack of understanding. He hopes by sharing his story it will give people hope.
