LEADING East Midlands law firm Nelsons has announced the substantial growth of its expert private client service in Derby, following the recent acquisition of Else Solicitors and the appointment of two experienced new hires.

The enhanced team underscores the firm’s ongoing commitment to supporting and empowering individuals and families across Derby and the surrounding region, particularly in the wake of recent government changes.

She said: “The past few months have been an exceptionally busy and exciting time for our Derby-based team with the acquisition of Else Solicitors and the recruitment of more talented individuals. With the recent budget announcements, pension and inheritance changes have highlighted the increasing need for individuals to review their estate planning, particularly concerning areas such as business property relief and agricultural property relief. Our team is well-equipped to guide clients through these complexities and provide tailored advice for those navigating these important matters.”

The acquisition of Else Solicitors brought Kathryn Caple, a highly respected legal director with 20 years’ experience in wills and probate and a strong client following. Also joining from Else is Myah Armstrong, an ambitious paralegal who has worked closely with Kathryn and is currently pursuing her legal qualifications, further boosting the team’s capacity.

Speaking about joining the team and her hopes for the future, Kathryn said: “It has been such a positive experience moving to Nelsons and into the Derby private client team. Everyone has been so welcoming and it's great to have more people to learn from. There is a real mix of experience and specialisms within our team, and I know we will continue to go from strength to strength.

“Myah has been working alongside me for the last seven years, starting as an apprentice and developing her knowledge, so this will be a great opportunity for her to progress even further.”

The team also welcomed the arrival of Bianca Gregory and Tom Glenister from Geldards.

Senior associate Tom joined in January specialising in Wills that provide for vulnerable beneficiaries -, and will play a crucial role in structuring the growing team, mentoring junior colleagues, and contributing to training initiatives. He is also currently undertaking the prestigious STEP (Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners) qualification, which Helen and Kathryn also currently hold.

Bianca is an experienced legal executive who has advised on wills and probate matters for nearly a decade. Since joining the team in November, Bianca has quickly become an invaluable asset.

The team is also strengthened by the return of associate Heidi Van Rooyen, following her maternity leave. Heidi is eager to further develop her expertise by working alongside Tom and building her own caseload.

Completing the team’s positive growth is Sainabou Touray, who recently qualified as a solicitor in February after two years with Nelsons. Sainabou has been mentored by Helen Salisbury and gained significant experience through a tailored training approach within the private client team. Her qualification aligns well with the team’s growth, providing her with valuable opportunities to learn from experienced colleagues and a diverse range of client matters.

Helen added: “This tremendous growth not only supports our client service but also brings a wealth of knowledge and support within our office. Kathryn and Tom’s experience will provide invaluable support in the management of the team, allowing us to share ideas and implement plans more effectively. For Sainabou, it’s a fantastic opportunity to learn from experienced colleagues and see the variety of clients we support, with a clear pathway for her to develop her technical skills and progress within the firm.”

Nelsons’ strengthened Derby private client team offers a holistic service including wills, trusts and probate, inheritance tax, and Powers of Attorney with cross-referrals throughout the firm, ensuring comprehensive legal support.
