Parkinson’s UK’s Bakewell support group is holding its third annual charity fundraising concert to support people living with Parkinson’s in Bakewell and the surrounding areas, and is inviting the local community to join in.

The concert will take place this Saturday 13 September in the Assembly Room Theatre at Bakewell Town Hall, Matlock Street, Bakewell, Derbyshire, DE45 1BT, with doors opening at 6:30pm for a 7:00pm start. Tickets are £10.69 per person and can be purchased online via the Town Hall website: www.ticketsource.co.uk/bakewelltownhall/t-moylqrr or in person at the Town Hall. Tickets will also be available on the door.

The evening will feature performances by the Bakewell Community Choir and the Bakewell Silver Band, as well as a prize raffle and a drinks bar throughout the event.

Joyce Steele, Group Coordinator for Parkinson’s UK’s Bakewell support group, became involved with the charity after learning about the condition for the first time. She describes it as a “very worthwhile cause” and was inspired by the bravery of those living with Parkinson’s. Joyce also wanted to help raise funds to support research into better treatments and, ultimately, a cure.

Joyce said: “It's wonderful to be holding our third annual concert. All the proceeds go towards paying for shared activities and outings for the support group, which has grown enormously since 2020, so this is a key opportunity to raise funds to continue to offer support to the Parkinson's community.“

Jackie Conn, Local Volunteer Officer at Parkinson’s UK, said: “We are so grateful to Joyce for organising this fabulous event that will enable the support group to continue to offer support to local people affected by Parkinson’s.

“The group has grown to support many more people, so this is a vital local fundraising activity to assure people affected by Parkinson’s can access support in the Bakewell area.”

“The charity hopes that this fundraising activity inspires you to get involved with Parkinson’s UK. There are lots of ways for you to get involved and support us - from volunteering at an event, to campaigning for better services. Without the generosity of people like Joyce, our work would not be possible."

Parkinson's is a complex brain condition that gets worse over time. Affecting 166,000 people in the UK, it has more than 40 symptoms, from tremor and pain to anxiety, and there is currently no cure.
