The 16 worst performing secondary schools in Derby based on latest GCSE English and Maths grades

Discover Derby’s secondary schools with the lowest GCSE results in English and maths, based on the latest government data.

We have compiled a list of the best and worst performing secondary schools in Derby using the latest GCSE results for English and maths.

These two core subjects form the basis of our ranking, as we have used exam results from these topics to evaluate secondary school performance.

We have taken Government data to look at the percentage of students who achieved Grade 5 or higher in English and maths at Derby’s secondary schools, as well as the percentage who accomplished Grade 4.

Using the old grading system as a benchmark, Grade 5 is a very similar level of achievement to a high Grade C, or a low Grade B. While Grade 4 or higher is similar to a Grade C or above in the previous grading system.

The government website says pupils included in this performance data will have experienced some disruption due to Covid-19 earlier in their schooling, which will have affected individual pupils and schools differently.

We have removed private schools in our ranking but included state-maintained secondary schools and academy schools.

Here are results showing the lowest ranked schools in the city based on the latest GCSE results.
