Pack up a hamper of goodies and snuggly blanket to enjoy a spot of al fresco dining as your gaze wanders across the Derbyshire countryside.
Here are some of the best picnic spots, in no particular order, that can be easily reached from Derby.
1. Ashover Rock
Ashover Rock, or The Fabrick as it’s also known locally, is near Ashover village. Its location, sitting on heathland at 299m above sea level, means you can enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding countryside. 2. Calke Abbey
Enjoy the very best of the English countryside at this National Trust site of Calke Abbey. Before hunkering down for your hamper goodies, explore the estate of the ‘unstately home’, a Grade I listed country house on the site of a 12th century Augustinian priory. 3. Chatsworth House
Tuck into a picnic at Stand Wood or designated areas at Chatsworth House. One of Derbyshire’s literary gems - Jane Austen was a frequent visitor - Chatsworth has also been immortalised in the world of film where The Duchess and Pride and Prejudice was filmed. 4. Hardwick Hall
