Cosmo Derby is one of the city’s buffet restaurants offering different cuisine from across the world including British, Italian and Indian.
If you ever struggle to decide what to eat, then a buffet restaurant may be for you.
I wasn’t sure what I wanted for food, so I was pleased I had a lunch reservation where DerbyWorld was invited to try the food.
Don’t be fooled by the unassuming exterior. Cosmo Derby is based in an art deco-style building, the site of the 1934 Gaumont Cinema.
Original features such as cinema seating can still be found onsite at the expansive 15,000 square foot restaurant which serves a wide variety of dishes including roasts, pizza, pasta, noodles and more.
I tried a variety of dishes and I still didn’t try everything I had my eye on.
The stir-fried noodles had a nice hit of soy sauce and battered sweet and sour chicken was tender and flavoursome.
And the Margherita pizza was good with a light crust, and the chicken jalfrezi was a subtly spiced delight.
What I love most about Cosmo is the diverse choice of dishes on offer.
It’s good for large families with different palates.
Or, if you’re in a mood where you can’t quite decide what you want to eat, then you can browse the different aisles and see what takes your fancy.
I love seafood so teppanyaki prawns cooked with a twist of garlic butter and cracked black pepper, were a personal highlight.
It was a hot afternoon too, which meant soft-serve ice cream - two portions no less - went down very well.
Soft drinks are refillable which is also quite handy if eating your fill of myriad dishes.
Customer service is top-notch, if Sid is there on the day, you are in safe hands.
It was nice to see waitstaff frequently patrol all dining areas, keeping an eye out to whisk away dirty plates, or be on hand to answer any questions.
Buffet prices vary depending on lunch or dinner service, and day.
Prices start from £16.99 for lunch, £19.99 for dinner, and children under 5 years of age will pay £2.99.
Location: Cosmo Buffet Restaurant, London Road, Derby DE1 2PA
