We discovered the perfect Midlands pub that blends luxury dining with village charm

This countryside pub nails luxury and comfort with a stunning courtyard and a tempting menu.

The Meynell Ingram Arms in Hoar Cross has had the glow-up of the year, and honestly, it’s absolutely worth a visit.

Fresh from a huge refurbishment, this countryside pub has managed to nail that sweet spot between luxury and laid-back comfort.

Step inside and you’re greeted with gorgeous new interiors, a buzzing atmosphere, and a sense that you’ve found somewhere a bit special without it ever feeling pretentious.

Step outside, and the courtyard just steals the show – a stunning space that’s practically made for long summer evenings with a glass in hand.

On our visit, we decided to give the menu a proper test run, and it delivered on every level.

I went for the chicken and ham hock pie – golden, hearty and just perfect – while my dining partner played it classic with a sirloin steak that was cooked exactly as it should be.

Before that, we shared focaccia with chilli butter and some bruschetta – fresh, simple, and packed with flavour.

And of course, no meal is complete without dessert, so we rounded things off with apple crumble and a sticky toffee pudding that was rich, indulgent, and probably one of the best I’ve had in a while. It’s proper pub food, but elevated in all the right ways.

The new menu has plenty more to tempt you too.

Small plates like Dorset crab on toast and crispy pork belly bring a modern twist, and the premium steaks straight from their dry-ageing cabinet mean you’re guaranteed something memorable if you’re after a treat.

And then there’s Bar M.I.A., the pub’s brand-new addition. With Balearic-inspired interiors, DJs, cocktails, brunches and events, it brings a fun, lively side to the traditional pub setting – so whether you’re after a relaxed dinner or a weekend out with friends, The Meynell has it covered.

What makes it all even better is the setting. Hoar Cross itself is a lovely little village, tucked away in the Staffordshire countryside, and the drive there alone feels like part of the experience. Think rolling fields, winding country lanes and that quiet, peaceful charm you only get in a proper English village.

Pair that backdrop with The Meynell’s fresh new look and feel, and you’ve got the perfect recipe for a day out – whether it’s a long lunch, an evening drink in the courtyard, or a full-on night of food, cocktails and music.

What impressed me most is how the refurbishment has lifted the place without losing its character. The pub feels stylish and modern, but it’s still warm and inviting – the kind of spot where you could go for a casual pint or a special occasion meal and feel equally at home.

It’s the attention to detail, from the décor to the menu, that makes it stand out.

All in all, The Meynell Ingram Arms is more than just a pub – it’s become the heart of Hoar Cross once again.

Great food, a relaxed yet stylish atmosphere, and a countryside setting that’s hard to beat. If you’re looking for somewhere that really does it all, The Meynell has it sorted. Book your table and see for yourself at www.meynellingram.com.
