Recently I was looking through the BBC's Good Food online guide, published earlier this year, which features the best places to eat in cities across the UK including, Edinburgh, London, Manchester, Birmingham, Bristol, Liverpool and Nottingham.
While this is a great resource for anyone planning a city break, I was disappointed to see that Derby was missing from this comprehensive guide. And that got me wondering, surely there are enough great places in Derby to warrant a round-up of its own?
I'm new to the Derby area, so I took to Reddit's Derby community to ask for recommendations of the best places to eat in the city - and they didn't let me down.

From gastropubs to secret gems, here are just a few suggestions of the best places to eat in and around Derby according to Reddit:
1. The Horseshoes
Reddit users 'Muzz124' and 'davepepe' both recommended The Horseshoes in Long Lane. The award winning gastropub is home to one of chef Gareth Ward. | Google
2. The Shoulder of Mutton
Reddit user 'Miserable-Avocado-87' recommended The Shoulder of Mutton, which can be found in a beautiful countryside setting in Moor Lane, Ashbourne. They sang the praises of the 'good pub grub' and 'beer garden' during the summer. | Google
3. Dolce Salato
Reddit user 'Fianchioh' suggested Dolce Salato which they said is a "great Italian place" in the Cathedral Quarter of the city". You can find them in Queen Street. | Google
