'Viceroy Derby restaurant’s £20 meal deal served ace food that lasted us two days'
The Indian restaurant will leave diners full of good food, and a goody bag to take leftovers home.
It is not often you can enjoy four courses on a £20 budget at a top city restaurant.

When I heard of Viceroy Derby’s meal deal, I knew I had to visit.
Viceroy is a popular restaurant on Midland Road a few minutes away from Derby train station.
There is off-street parking and a small car park around the rear of the restaurant too.
The restaurant interior is elegant and the dress code appears to be smart-casual.
We’d love for you to have a look around the site and tell us what you think. You can sign up to our newsletter or follow us on Facebook.
On the night a diverse crowd included a well-heeled couple on date night, and mates in super casual gear of below-the-knee shorts.
The point being, anybody is welcome at Viceroy - the only caveat seems to be that you must enjoy good food and entertain the capacity to take away food with you too!

We started off with poppadoms and a selection of chutneys.

Crisp and fresh, I karate chopped them in seconds and dunked shards into the unctuous chutneys.
Hot favourites at the table were diced onion, and fiery mint.
What I liked about the first course was the generous amount of chutneys, not your usual ramekins dishes where you have to go on a scraping spree to dig out the last remnants of chutneys.
I like dolloping separate tablespoons of all the chutneys onto a plate, so I can create new flavour profiles dependant on my mood.
I was craving hot and sour food, so I mixed up the spicy onion chutney with its tangy tamarind counterpart, which was a great start to the meal.
My starter of hot chilli paneer was so good, I wolfed it down in minutes.

Chunks of cheese with delectably chargrilled edges was so good and so very filling, I was starting to get worried that I may not have enough room for my main.
Dining partner had seekh kebab as his starter.

Minced lamb fashioned into sausage shaped kebabs had a good fiery kick, flecks of fresh green chilli evident in the glistening exterior of the grilled meat.
My main of chicken mirch masala was hot, spicy and altogether perfect to awaken my palate. I liked the garam masala and cumin notes coming through in the base of the curry.

Chicken pieces were soft and tender, which I scooped up on buttery naan. I had around three mouthfuls and I couldn’t eat any more, such are the generous sized portions that we were served.

Dining partner enjoyed his keema handi curry, which had a nice undertone of cinnamon in the tasty gravy.

Dessert of rice pudding was the final course, I had literally one teaspoon, but could not physically eat anything else.
We packed both curries to go, as we hate wasting food, and it made an excellent lunch the day after.
It wasn’t just us who got takeaway food to go, I spotted two tables get up with doggy bags in tow.
Dining at Viceroy Derby is such a treat, it will feel sweeter knowing all that scrumptious food costs just £20 per person.
Customer service is stellar, you are greeted more like a pal than a regular customer, which is a nice touch.
Thank you to Viceroy Derby for an excellent dining experience, I look forward to seeing the team again very soon.
