Hathersage is a charming village surrounded by stunning countryside in the Hope Valley, making it a perfect place for outdoor enthusiasts. The town has a strong sense of community, with close-knit residents who actively participate in local events, supporting each other and creating a welcoming atmosphere for any new residents. Hathersage is full of character and has numerous places for you to explore, including local shops, pubs, and restaurants. The town is probably best known for its literary links, inspiring author Charlotte Bronte when she was writing 'Jane Eyre'. She visited North Lees Hall located in Hathersage several times in 1845, and it served as inspiration for Thornfield Hall. | Andrew Hill Photo: Andrew Hill

3. Belper
Belper, is a beautiful market town with a rich industrial heritage. It was once an Anglo-Saxon settlement and is famous for its award-winning high street, named the 2019 Great British High Street. Belper has a thriving community of local independent restaurants, cafes, and shops. The town is located at the heart of the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site, making it a wonderful place to go for a walk and enjoy the beautiful countryside views. You'll find a great variety of houses to choose from, ranging from modern to older period properties. Belper is also conveniently located close to cities like Nottingham and Derby, perfect for those seeking a city shopping spree or a night out away from the town. | Chris Allen Photo: Chris Allen

4. Buxton
Buxton in Derbyshire was named one of the best places to live in the Sunday Times in 2018 and 2024. It has a wealth of community groups to get involved in and is centrally located, making it a great place for commuting around the region. The town has a rich history and a strong artistic community, often referred to as the "bath of the north." Buxton is the highest spa town in the north, boasting amazing infrastructure from the crescent to the opera house to the Devonshire dome, making it like a postcard. Despite its remote location, Buxton is surprisingly well connected, with touring theatre shows and an international festival. Overall, there is lots to do in Buxton so if you decide to live here you will never be bored. | Kenneth Allen Photo: Kenneth Allen
