Quirky market town 60 minutes from Derby with famous 'queues out the door' ice cream shop

Discover the quirky market town near Derby that's home to a famous ice cream shop known for its 'queues out the door.'

Henley-in-Arden has been voted as one of the best places to live in the Midlands, by the Muddy Stilettos guide.

The picturesque Warwickshire market town is just 60 minutes from Derby by car, and is known for its brilliant high street, as well as historic buildings, boutique shops, and variety of eateries.

The High Street is lined with half-timbered buildings and offers a quaint, traditional day out with medieval churches to visit as well. One big attraction for visitors is the famous Henley Ice Cream shop - a family run business on the high street that can seat up to 40 people.

The shop has a long history, including winning a national award for best ice cream in the UK in 1937, and it remains open today - at that very same parlour on the High Street.

Thinking of paying the shop a visit? It’s open from 9am to 5pm Monday through Friday, and 9am to 5pm on Saturdays and Sundays

What has Muddy Stilettos said about the village?

The guide read: “The unspoilt high street has more than 150 buildings of historic interest, including the timber-framed Guild Hall, a community hub. Henley’s extremely close to Stratford-upon-Avon (8.5 miles). ts central location, avenue of elegant Cotswold stone houses, lively pubs, great schools, and picturesque canals make it an appealing place to live.”

Where to eat?

The guide recommends Glyn Purnell’s pub The Mount or The Black Swan. Nearby attractions include the stunning Wootton Park - a popular venue for weddings.
