I discover hidden gem luxury lifestyle food hall, butchers, garden centre, bar is brilliant daytrip from Derby

A sunny bank holiday means getting out and about to make the most of time off, which is how I found myself at The Coppice.

It is not somewhere I have ever been to before.

The Coppice on Coppice Lane is a self-titled ‘luxury lifestyle and food destination’.

I found it to be a beautiful hybrid of an eclectic food hall, café, butchers and garden centre.

In short it’s a brilliant bougie bank holiday destination.

I visited yesterday (Sunday, May 25, 2025) after Googling where to get a painting restored.

After dropping off the painting at Heart Galleries, we took a walk around the complex.

The entrance and middle complex channels minimalism, with white gravel that almost seems too clean to park over.

Once inside the complex, head to Forage, which is an ace mix of butchers, deli, bakery and café.

It’s a shame that the café stopped serving coffee at 3.30pm, one hour earlier than advertised on Google. But that was soon rectified by going to another place down the road to sate my coffee-and-cake craving.

What I especially love about Forage is unique items that I have never seen before.

I’m not the biggest fan of eggs however even the Fried Egg flavoured crisps made me double-take.

I love books, cookbooks are my favourite reads. Apart from making me hungry as I leaf through pages of stunning food, I love being inspired in the kitchen and getting recipe development ideas.

There is also a cute restaurant and bar towards the back called The Fig & Olive, that is on my list of places to check out properly for lunch (we had already eaten before leaving the house).

I found visiting The Coppice to be a great day out that has something for everyone, from green-fingered gardening fans, to full-on foodies.

The Coppice is a 34-minute drive from Derby.
