There aren’t many things more quintessentially British than a day at the seaside.
From tucking into a tray of donuts to building sandcastles, many of us have fond memories of day trips to the beach during our youth.
As you’d expect, many coastal spots are at their busiest at this time of year as families look to make the most of the summer sun.
But those of us here in land-locked Derbyshire don’t have to worry about busy beaches because, well, we don’t have any.
When those hot and sunny summer days arrive, our county’s position slap-bang in the middle of the country makes us feel a bit left out
But the sea and sand are actually closer to Derbyshire than you might think, with the Lincolnshire coastline packed with great spots to spend a day this summer.
A short drive down the A46 or A17 opens the door to dozens of amazing coastal gems, and some of them don’t get the love they deserve.
There’s far more to the Lincolnshire coast than Skegness, as we’re about to show you.
We’ve picked out 5 underrated beaches that don’t usually get the attention they deserve.
There aren’t any ice cream huts, cafes or amusement arcades - but that only adds to their charm.
See the 5 beaches below:

1. Chapel St Leonards
Just north of the popular seaside town of Indolgmells is Chapel St Leonards. A mix of sand and shingle, the beach isn't usually as busy as other spots along the Lincolnshire coast. 2. Anderby Creek Beach
Nestled between Chapel St Leonards and Sutton on Sea, Anderby Creek Beach boasts a long, sandy beach with plenty of space for visitors to enjoy. Anderby Beach is known for its chilled-out vibe, with far fewer visitors than nearby Skegness and Ingoldmells. | Mat Fascione Photo: Mat Fascione

3. Saltfleet
Described by Visit Lincolnshire as an "unspoilt sandy beach backed by sand dunes", Saltfleet is arguably the most underrated beach on the Lincolnshire coast. The vast expanse is perfect for dogs to burn off energy. The tiny village of Saltfleet has a chip shop and several bed and breakfasts. | Chris Photo: Chris

4. Humberston Fitties Beach
Humberston Fitties beach is a stretch of golden sand separated by groynes at the south end of Cleethorpes. The beach is located between the Saltmarsh and Marine Embankment beach area and the Humber Mouth Yacht Club. There aren't any facilities such as toilets or cafes at the beach, but that only adds to its charm. | Steve Fareham Photo: Steve Fareham
