The 30 schools across Derbyshire offering free breakfast clubs under new scheme - full list includes Derby

There are 754 nationwide school participants in the Government’s breakfast clubs pilot

The Department for Education has named 754 breakfast club early adopter schools which includes 30 in the Derbyshire region.

The 21 schools in Derbyshire, and nine in Derby, are a mixture of academies, local authority maintained, and free schools.

These are some of the first schools to offer pupils free breakfast clubs under the Government’s flagship scheme.

A total of 754 schools with primary-aged children across England have been selected to join the pilot, which is expected to run from April before a national rollout - including 21 in Derbyshire and nine in Derby.

Schools were chosen from across England to ensure the scheme tests and learns from a variety of locations, including those that do not currently run a breakfast club.

All will receive funding to cover food and staffing costs.

The schools that are part of the trial are expected to offer a free breakfast to all pupils and at least 30 minutes of childcare before school.

The £7 million “early adopters” scheme was announced at the Labour party conference last September.

It aims to test programme delivery ahead of a wider national rollout in England and is expected to run until July before expansion.

Education Secretary, Bridget Phillipson, said: “Free breakfast clubs sit right at the heart of our Plan for Change, breaking the link between background and success for families all over the country.

“Breakfast clubs can have a transformative impact on the lives of children, feeding hungry tummies and fuelling hungry minds, so every child begins the day ready to learn.

“Alongside our plans to roll out school-based nurseries and get thousands more children school-ready, this government is delivering the reforms needed to give every child, wherever they grow up, the best start in life.”
