Adam Peaty will train under Director of Swimming Jamie Main

Olympic champion Adam Peaty is set to return to his Derbyshire training home at Repton.

The triple Olympic winner posted the announcement across social media, praising Repton Swimming Sports Club and coach Jamie Main under whom he will be training.

Peaty wrote: ‘I’ve chosen to return to @reptonswimming under coach Jamie Main. It’s a place that I’ve spent many years already and I couldn’t think of anywhere else to continue my career (it was my training base for the Rio 2016).

‘It’s also a place where we have run [sic] lots of @apraceofficial clinics and we’re always so impressed, especially, with their investment in sporting excellence. One set from 2015 back in the day with @melmarshallmassive just reminding me of all the fond memories I have there. Time to get to work’.

Peaty is a 30-year-old elite swimmer born in Uttoxeter, Derbyshire.

He has trained under Mel Marshall for the majority of his competitive swimming career.

However, with Marshall taking up the post of head coach for Griffith University in Australia, Peaty decided to return to Derbyshire and train under Jamie Main.

Main is no stranger to competitive swimming, having joined from Aquatics GB Performance Centre in Bath.

Adam’s impressive accomplishments include winning 100m breaststroke gold at the 2016 Olympic Games - the first British male swimmer to do so in 24 years.

He retained the title in 2020 Summer Olympics - the first British swimmer to keep an Olympic title.

Peaty is also an eight-time World Champion, a sixteen-time European Champion and a four-time Commonwealth Champion, whose upcoming training at Repton School will no doubt bolster his trophy record.

Reflecting on Peaty’s return, Repton School told DerbyWorld: “We are delighted to welcome back Olympic champion Adam Peaty, who has chosen Repton as his training base working alongside our Director of Swimming, Jamie Main.

“We are proud to support Adam in his journey and look forward to being part of his continued success.”
