Derby County vs Plymouth Argyle photos of cheerful fans, tense Wayne Rooney and ram on field

Derby County took on Plymouth Argyle at Pride Park Stadium on Saturday, November 9, 2024.

It was a special game that had been selected as the club’s annual Remembrance fixture.

Ahead of kick-off on Saturday, wreaths were laid on the pitch by representatives from both clubs.

Those in attendance were asked to observe the playing of the Last Post before a period of silence.

Ram Regimental Mascot Pte Derby 33rd graced the pitch with his presence after which the game started.

Derby County made early gains in the Sky Bet Championship, with Jerry Yates’ flying overhead acrobatic bicycle kick in the eighth minute.

It is Yates’ second goal in as many matches.

The fantastic overhead kick came about thanks to harmonious play between Kayden Jackson, Kane Wilson and Kenzo Goudmijn which earned the Rams a corner.

The delivery flew around the box and set up in the perfect position for Yates’ acrobatics to give the Rams a one-goal advantage.

The Rams were nearly another goal up when Nat Phillips came within inches of profiting from another corner ball as he drove a header into the ground and it flew over the crossbar.

Pilgrims captain Adam Randall cancelled out Yates’ epic goal by equalising in the 41st minute with a free-kick.

The dead-ball strike hit Yates in the Rams’ wall and spun upwards while goalkeeper Jacob Widell Zetterström had touched down, giving the ball a clear route to find the back of the net.
