Derby cricket club allowed to extend drinking hours - despite concerns
Residents voiced worries about late-night revellers making noise near their doorsteps
A Derby cricket club will be allowed to extend its drinking and entertainment hours - despite concerns over noise.
Spondon Cricket Club has been granted permission to vary its existing licensing conditions following a Derby City Council hearing.
Bosses of the cricket club applied to the council to make changes to the club’s current licensing conditions at its Locko Road clubhouse.
The venue’s current opening hours are from 9am to 11pm from Monday to Sunday.
This includes a different set of times for various licensable activities such as the supply of alcohol, live music being played, recorded music being played and indoor sporting events.
Bosses wanted to extend the opening hours up to midnight on some days - except between Tuesdays to Thursdays - and until 1am on Saturday nights.
However, this led to concerns from residents who were worried about late-night revellers making noise near their doorsteps.
However, despite the concerns, the council has allowed the club to extend its opening hours providing the cut-off for supply of alcohol was brought forward from 11.59pm to 11.30pm from Sunday through to Friday - to allow an adequate period for finishing drinks before the premises closed.
Another condition was agreed upon for the supply of alcohol cut-off to be brought forward from 12.59am to 12.30am on Saturdays to, again, allow an adequate period for finishing drinks before closing.
The club said there will be CCTV cameras outside of the premises and signs displayed advising people to be “considerate to the neighbours when leaving the premise”.
