Peak District wildfire update: Is it still burning?
Fire crews are making progress in controlling the Peak District wildfire. Stay updated on the latest developments.
Fire crews from Derbyshire and Cheshire have made significant progress overnight in tackling the moorland fire near Errwood Reservoir in the Goyt Valley.
Thanks to the coordinated efforts of United Utilities, Peak District National Park rangers, Derby Mountain Rescue Team, local farmers, and gamekeepers, the fire has now been fully surrounded.
Firefighters remain on scene this morning, focusing on extinguishing deep-seated hotspots within a tree plantation and continuing to damp down smouldering areas across the moorland.
Conditions remain challenging, but the immediate spread of the fire has been halted.
The fire, which broke out on Wednesday, April 30, burned throughout the night, prompting a large-scale emergency response. While there is no ongoing threat to nearby communities, the area remains hazardous. The public is urged to avoid the Goyt Valley while firefighting operations continue.
Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service will provide further updates as the situation develops.
