Police chief's sadness after Derby man dies in crash

The man was sadly pronounced dead at the scene

Investigations are taking place after a campervan driver from Derby died in a three-vehicle crash in Devon.

The collision happened on the A379 at Harraton Cross near Modbury in south Devon just before 12pm on Sunday.

The campervan driver was treated by paramedics but was later pronounced dead at the scene.

His next of kin have been informed, officers said.

Devon and Cornwall Police said the man who died was in his 60s and visiting the area from Derby.

Officers said a blue Vauxhall Zafira and a white Kawasaki motorbike were also involved.

The male motorcycle rider was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

A number of road closures were put in place and the A379 reopened at 5.30pm.

Anyone with any information about the incident should contact Devon and Cornwall Police.

According to officers, there have been 10 deaths on roads in the two counties in the past four weeks.

Superintendent Ryan Doyle, from Devon and Cornwall Police, said the loss of life had a "devastating" impact.

He added: "The past few weeks have been truly tragic and the last thing our officers want to do is knock on any more doors to tell someone a loved one isn't coming home.

"Please, please, drive safely."
