Latest weather for Derby: Cold weather alert extended till weekend

The amber Cold-Health Alert is in place now, due to plummeting temperatures in the East Midlands and across the UK.

Wintry conditions across Derby and the wider East Midlands has seen the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) make a new weather alert announcement.

As of Monday January 6, 2025 the amber Cold-Health Alert (CHA) issued by UKHSA has been extended until midday on Sunday January 12.

According to Met Office, temperatures will hover around 1° today, dropping to -2°on Thursday, and -4° on Friday. You can see this week’s forecast here.

Previously, all regions were under an amber alert until midday on Wednesday January 8.

Dr Agostinho Sousa is Head of Extreme Events and Health Protection at UKHSA.

They said: “We are extending the duration of our Cold-Health Alert, since the Met Office are forecasting that the low temperatures we are seeing will continue further into this week, with snow and icy conditions likely to persist.”

“This weather can have a serious impact on the health of some people, including those aged 65 and over and those with pre-existing health conditions.

“It is therefore vital that we continue to check in on friends, family and neighbours that are most vulnerable.

“These people could be more at risk of heart attacks, stroke and chest infections as a result of cold temperatures.”
