Derbyshire weather: This is when heavy rain could hit Derby as heatwave set to end

Derby looks set to finally see heavy showers, with the current heatwave finally coming to an end.

Derbyshire has basked in high temperatures since Friday, with thermometers hitting the high 20s each day.

But now forecasters are predicting the city will finally see some heavy showers on Tuesday.

Tuesday, July 15, will see sunny intervals changing to heavy rain by late morning - with temperatures dropping to 20 degrees.

When will the heat end?

A change in the weather is on the cards early next week. Monday will see showers developing across many parts of the UK, some of which could be heavy and thundery. This will herald the arrival of fresher, cooler conditions from the west, whilst some eastern areas will remain very warm with temperatures in the high twenties, the rest of the UK will see the peak of daytime temperatures on Monday several degrees lower than on previous days. Cooler, more changeable weather will spread across the whole of the UK by midweek.

What are the heatwave criteria? In the UK, a heatwave is officially defined when a location records at least three consecutive days with daily maximum temperatures meeting or exceeding the heatwave temperature threshold. This threshold varies by county, reflecting the diverse climate across the UK.

Today (Monday 14)

Feeling very warm or hot in the sunshine. Some showers may be likely. Breezy later. Maximum temperature 29 °C. Mostly dry this evening with sunny spells, but starting to feel much fresher. Dry with clear spells overnight, perhaps some rain reaching the Peak District later. Cooler than of late. Minimum temperature 11 °C.

Tuesday (15)

A mostly dry start, soon clouding over and becoming windy, with rain and showers likely in the afternoon. Showers could be heavy and thundery at times. Much cooler than recently. Maximum temperature 22 °C.

Outlook for Wednesday to Friday:

A fair bit of dry weather is probable, but with the risk of some outbreaks of rain or showers at times. Temperatures likely above average going back up to 25 °C on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
