Hello there - and a very warm welcome to DerbyWorld.

I’m Michael Broomhead, a senior digital journalist for this exciting new website.

Using video, audio, pictures and words, I want to explore issues that matter to you, give you more of a voice on various different things, and celebrate Derby and surrounding areas, the people and the businesses.

I won’t be afraid to stand up for you and ask difficult questions of powers-that-be where necessary - but I also want to provide you with some light-hearted, escapism content here and there.

I’m also keen to have regular conversations with you - I really want you to get involved in helping to shape my news list and the direction of DerbyWorld.

A little bit about me

I’m Derbyshire born and bred and have lived in this amazing area for most of my life.

I have links to Derby and I think it’s a fantastic city with a fabulous past, present and future.

I’m a journalist with nearly 15 years’ experience of storytelling online and in print - I’ve worked for several Derbyshire titles over the years, including the Derbyshire Times, the Buxton Advertiser and the Matlock Mercury.

It’s a pleasure to now be part of DerbyWorld - I’m looking forward to seeing the site grow and making it a success.
