Derby weather: Yellow warning for thunderstorms issued
A yellow weather warning has been issued for Derby and the wider Derbyshire area this weekend.
Experts at the Met Office have issued the alert for Saturday, September 9 between 2pm and 9pm.

Hide AdThe warning covers as far north as Manchester right down to Swindon, with Derby sat firmly in the area of concern.
The Met Office states that "a few heavy showers and thunderstorms are possible, perhaps leading to some disruption".
What to expect
According to the Met Office website, these are some of the things to expect due to the thunderstorms:
- Spray and sudden flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures
- Where flooding or lightning strikes occur, there is a chance of delays and some cancellations to train and bus services
- There is a slight chance that power cuts could occur and other services to some homes and businesses could be lost
- There is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater, lightning strikes, hail or strong winds

Looking at the longer-range weather forecast for the region, Saturday and Sunday are set to reach almost 30°, so it will still be warm despite the potential for downpours.
Into next week and the mercury does fall as the week progresses, with highs of 23° on Monday down to 18° on Wednesday.
