Change of use for Allestree Hall into wedding venue / guest house

An application to amend the use of Allestree Hall into a wedding venue has been made to Derby City Council.

Allestree Hall is a 19th century former country house which consists of Grade II listed hall, stables and icehouse within Allestree Country Park.

McTurks Kebabs Derby apply for new premises

Long-standing kebab shop McTurks has submitted an application for a new premises licence at 47 Wardwick.

It is to allow late night refreshment (indoors) Monday through to Sunday, from 11am till 5am.

McTurks Kebabs has been based at Morledge since 1982. It is currently not known whether the new premises licence will see the kebab shop relocate from Morledge to Wardwick, or add the Wardwick site as part of the kebab shop’s portfolio. McTurks Kebabs have been contacted for comment.

Hollywood style film studio could be coming to Derby

Derbyshire’s council leadership is keen to entice a company to set up a major film studio in the county.

Cllr Rob Reaney is heading up a bid to plug a regional gap in film production.

The intended location of the potential large film studio would be on the 428-acre “East Midlands Intermodal Park” opposite Toyota’s Burnaston HQ, next to the A38/A50 roundabout.

The intermodal park is a core part of the East Midlands Freeport which includes a variety of financial incentives such as tax breaks for companies setting up shop in the area.

The proposed plan would be to offer the 321-acre Elvaston Castle Country Park estate and its campsite as a base for production companies to accommodate their crew, cast and extras during filming.
