However, after Derby's second goal, the Brewers showed some signs of life under new manager Martin Paterson as they hit back twice to leave the game level with 25 minutes to go.
With Burton having all the momentum, it looked more likely that the away side would go on to win, but then as added time approached, the Rams found their feet again.
A stunning finish from captain Conor Hourihane closed the game out and Derby stole the three points with a 3-2 win.

Hide AdDespite the great result, it wasn't the best performance from Paul Warne's side as it may have been some complacency which allowed the Brewers back into the game.
Either way, three points has put the Rams in third place, level on points with second-placed Peterborough and thanks to their loss at the weekend, just one point behind league leaders Portsmouth.
The Rams have now won 10 games in their last 12 and will look to continue their good form at the weekend away against Lincoln City.
Paul Warne has made it clear that he's aiming to add to his squad, something that yesterday's performance showed. His players seemed to lose energy in the second half and his options on the bench weren't what you'd call difference makers.
However, a win is a win and Derby now find themselves in prime position to have a chance to go to the top of the league this weekend.
