Derby County suffered a 3-2 defeat to Peterborough United on New Year's Day

Derby County faced a 3-2 defeat on Monday as they fell to Peterborough in what was an entertaining but devastating result for Rams fans.

They took the lead with James Collins after just 22 seconds which was quickly followed by an equaliser from the Posh.

A disappointing result, but with the Rams' nine game unbeaten run coming to an end, they still sit in fourth in League One.

Defender Callum Elder came onto the pitch at half time but was unable to help his team to a win. Speaking to Rams TV after the game, he said: "It was a bitter blow to concede so late on. I thought we fought until the end.

"We've been on a great run over the Christmas period and were aiming to go 10 unbeaten today. We set out to win the game but, unfortunately, we came up short.

"We came up against a good side with loads of energy and they moved the ball well. We got ourselves into a good position at 2-1 up but we just didn't do enough to see the game out. We've got to dust ourselves off now as we've got another busy period coming up and we'll go full steam into that."

Despite the loss, Paul Warne's side have been one of the better form teams in the league recently and will be looking to bounce back on Saturday against Fleetwood Town.

Elder added: "The gaffer said before the Christmas period started that it was going to take a big effort from everyone. I think we've shown a real togetherness over the last six weeks to put together the run we've been on.

"It's disappointing to lose, but we go into Fleetwood on Saturday with a positive attitude and we will be looking to get a good result."

The Rams kick off against Fleetwood Town at 12:30 on Saturday 6 January.
