There are a number of League One fixtures taking place tonight however Derby County won’t feature.
The Rams have played more games than a number of teams and so the midweek fixtures will erase any games in hand before the end of the season.
Most importantly, Derby County promotion rivals do feature tonight which could have massive implications as to whether Derby could secure promotion this weekend against Cambridge United.
Bolton Wanderers sit just four points behind the Rams and so if they drop points tonight, Derby would have the chance to earn themselves a spot in the Championship next season on Saturday.
Furthermore, league leaders Portsmouth will have the chance to secure the league title tonight.
Here are three games for Derby County fans to look out for this evening which could be vital to the Rams’ promotion chances.
1. Bolton Wanderers vs Shrewsbury Town
Derby's biggest promotion rivals Bolton feature tonight in a game that could hand Derby the chance to secure promotion on Saturday against Cambridge United. Bolton will be hot favourites against the Shrews however as their opponents sit 19th in the league. 2. Portsmouth vs Barnsley
League leaders Portsmouth have the chance to secure the League One title this evening, but they will have to overcome a tough Barnsley side. The Tykes were in contention for automatic promotion for the majority of the season, however recent form has left them 11 points away from the top two and aiming to just secure a playoff spot. Whereas John Mousinho's Pompey have been the stand out side in the league this year, the league title will be fully deserved and it is now more of a question of if rather than when. 3. Peterborough United vs Fleetwood Town
Peterborough have two games in hand on Derby and are very much still in the automatic promotion chase. With a win over a struggling Fleetwood side, Peterborough would find themselves six points behind Derby with a game in hand. If the Rams were to slip up then the Posh could still challenge for promotion. However, they will need a better performance than the weekend as in their last game they fell to Oxford with a 5-0 scoreline.
