Derby County defender makes honest admission on Rams’ start to League One season

Derby County defender Callum Elder reflects on the Rams’ start to the season and says that they need to ‘stamp our authority’ on League One

Derby County currently sit in 11th place after six games with three wins and three losses.

Callum Elder joined the club from Hull City this summer and he has been reflecting on the Rams’ current position and the start to his Derby career.

He told Rams TV: “If we were to reflect on some of the games this season, in crucial moments we’ve nearly been there and the manager has spoke to us multiple times to reiterate the point that this is the here and now.

“We have the opportunity to do something really good but we need to stamp our authority now, not in one month or three months.”

The Australian did however speak positivley about the atmosphere in the dressing room and between Derby’s players and staff. He added: “It’s a good atmosphere, everyone knows each others strengths so we all believe in each other and the fact we’ve got that real tight link group can help us achieve our goals.”

The 28 year-old has made six appearances so far this season also earning himself an assist, but he’s yet to consistently start in the first XI for the Rams since joining in the summer.

Elder said that he’s ready to kick on his Derby career, he added: “We’ve got through the first bedding in period now and we’re looking to progress and create a good foothold in the league now and build on the work we’ve done so far.”

The left back features in DerbyWorld’s predicted XI for Saturday against Portsmouth which will be a good opportunity for him to cement his place in the first team.
