The former Blackpool and Cardiff man joined at the start of the season as a free agent and has been one of the better Rams signings in recent years.

He has played in every single minute of the League One season this year and it is clear to see why. Having developed a strong centre back partnership with young star Eiran Cashin, Nelson has helped the Rams to have the best defensive record in League One.

The 30 year-old has made 50 appearances since joining the Rams and has scored two goals and earnt 23 clean sheets for Derby.

Nelson has been a big part of the reason why the Rams have been so successful this year as he has headed away countless balls into the box and remains calm when the defence is under pressure from opposing teams.
