Former Derby County striker Chris Martin is training with League One rival Bristol Rovers since he has become a free agent.

Martin, 34, was released by Championship outfit QPR in the summer and has yet to sign for a new club.

The Scottish forward was at Pride Park from 2013 until 2020 when he left for Bristol City. He made over 190 appearances in black and white and scored 67 goals for the Rams.

Martin was one of Derby’s best strikers in recent years posting three seasons where he scored at least 15 goals including scoring 20 in the 2013/14 season which helped the Rams to a Championship playoff final appearance at Wembley which they went on to lose against QPR.

Martin also made appearances for his national team clocking 17 caps for Scotland and scoring three goals.

According to BristolLive, he’s been training with Joey Barton’s side as they look for a striker after a deadline day deal for Johnson Clarke-Harris fell through.

Rovers currently sit in 13th, one point below Derby in League One.
