Derby County have made a transfer admission regarding midfielder Herbie Kane who the Rams had shown previous interest in.

Derbyshire Live have reported that Kane is not an ‘active target’ for the Rams after coaches Matt Hamshaw and Andy Warrington were both spotted at Barnsley’s playoff semi-final earlier in May.

Herbie Kane’s contract at Barnsley runs out at the end of the month and so the midfielder has been identified as a possible replacement for Max Bird who signed for Bristol City recently.

Kane, 25, has been at Oakwell for two seasons after spells at Oxford United and Hull City following the start of his career where he came through Liverpool’s academy.

This past season, Kane made 41 appearances scoring nine goals and recording five assists.

He was Barnsley’s captain over the past season and has been described as a set-piece specialist and a creative midfielder, something that the Rams are lacking with the departures of Max Bird and Conor Hourihane this summer.

However, if the Rams have confirmed that they aren’t looking at Kane as a target, then they may look towards other options for midfield replacements.

With the departures of Korey Smith, Max Bird, Conor Hourihane and Ebou Adams, Derby are in desperate need of midfield help.
