He since played in 14 of 17 of their league games scoring a goal and recording an assist along the way.

According to Football Insider, Derby’s interest comes at a time when Charlton have already laid down a three year deal on the table, hoping to keep Small at the Valley long term.

However, with the Rams holding the lure of the Championship, should they offer, it could be too much for the 19 year old to turn down, with the prospect of playing in a higher league.

Derby’s need at left wing back is fairly apparent as the only natural left back on the team is Callum Elder. Paul Warne was forced to play midfielder Louie Sibley out of position in order to fill the need, something that the 22 year-old impressed at.

However, the benefit of bringing in a young, natural left wing back, would be a great long-term option, even if Small wasn’t to start immediatley.

He came through at Everton’s academy and was in demand last summer with both Tottenham and Rangers interested in Small.

The signing could help the Rams bolster their squad with exciting talent whilst also securing a player that could be a great option on a long term basis.

As things stand, it seems that Small could get the choice of staying at Charlton or making the move to Pride Park.
