The Rams spared any embarrassment by scoring two late goals to equalise against their opponents.

Goals from Nathaniel Mendez-Laing and Conor Hourihane in the 89th and 93rd minute gave the Rams their second chance.

After the game, manager Paul Warne told Rams TV: "I am really proud with how we played and I thought we played really well today.

"I'm really pleased of their effort levels when it's easy to just think 'it's not our day,' but they didn't. They just kept going and they have my full respect for that."

Derby dominated the game over Crewe but just struggled to take their chances, they had over 70% of the ball and 32 shots.

However, despite that, their opponents netted twice just before and just after half time when it seemed the game was all over. But the Rams finally made the most of their dominance with the two late goals much to the relief of the travelling fans.

Since the clash, both Crewe and Derby won at the weekend in very big games for both of them. The Rams beat promotion rivals Barnsley 3-0 in a fantastic performance.

Crewe managed to earn victory against their promotion rivals in League Two in the form of Notts County with a close fought 1-0 win.

Tuesday's battle is set up to be an entertaining affair.
