Derby County find themselves in a precarious position after they dropped points against Wycombe Wanderers last time out.
They are only two points ahead of Bolton Wanderers with the Trotters having a game in hand, thus putting the promotion fate of both clubs in Bolton’s hands.
This weekend the Rams face Leyton Orient at Pride Park in a game that feels like somewhat of a must win if they want to cling onto their second place league position.
Derby’s promotion rivals all feature this weekend as they will look to either close the gap, or in Bolton’s case, overtake the Rams into the automatic promotion places.
Not only that, but this weekend is a big one in League One as the title can be clinched by league leaders Portsmouth.
Here are three games for Derby fans to keep an eye on this weekend.
1. Bolton Wanderers vs Portsmouth
No doubt the biggest game of the weekend, Bolton host league leaders Portsmouth in a game that could end Derby County's long reign in second place. Furthermore, if Pompey win, then they would clinch the League One title and promotion to the Championship. Derby fans will be rooting for a Portsmouth win which would help the Rams massivley in their fight with the Trotters.
2. Oxford United vs Peterborough
A lot of focus has been put on the race for second between Derby and Bolton, but Peterborough are very much still in the contest. They have two games in hand on the Rams and so with two wins could be level on points with Paul Warne's side. All of this makes their clash with a tricky Oxford United at the weekend all the more important. If Derby fail to win and Peterborough are victorious, it could put Derby behind the Posh in the promotion race too.
3. Barnsley vs Reading
It feels somewhat like the automatic promotion places have slipped away from the Tykes, however they do still have a game in hand on Derby and if they win their remaining games, could well leapfrog the likes of Bolton and Peterborough should their promotion rivals falter under the pressure. Barnsley arguably have the easiest game of all the promotion contenders against Reading which could provide them with a great chance to keep pace with their rivals.
