Derby County find themselves on the brink of promotion with just one game left to go.
The Rams are one point away from a return to the Championship as they prepare to face last placed Carlisle United at Pride Park - it almost seems too good to be true.
Derby’s record with promotion chases hasn’t been particularly good in recent years. Between 2011 and 2019, the Rams were always fighting for promotion from the Championship but it never materialised with two playoff final losses in 2014 and 2019.
However, if they do get over the line this weekend, it will be the first promotion for Derby County since they beat West Bromich Albion in the Championship playoff final back in 2007.
The Rams won 1-0 with a late winner and earnt their spot in the Premier League.
But where is that Derby County team now?
1. Goalkeeper: Stephen Bywater
Stephen Bywater made more appearances for Derby than any other team in his career (150). The goalkeeper also notably played for West Ham and Burton Albion who were his most recent club as he retired in 2020. He still lives in Sutton on the Hill near Derby and has expressed his desire to move to a career in Mixed martial arts in recent times.
2. Defender: Jay McEverley
Jay McEverley played for Derby for three seasons, making over 90 appearances. He also had successful spells at Barnsley and Sheffield United. The 39 year-old still plays in the seventh tier of English football for Warrington Town.
3. Defender: Darren Moore
Darren Moore is still very much in the public eye as a manager that has had a lot of success at times. The former Ram played 80 games for Derby and retired from playing in 2012 whilst at Telford Town. He has since managed West Brom in the Premier League, Doncaster Rovers, earnt promotion with Sheffield Wednesday and most recently suffered relegation with League One side Port Vale.
4. Defender: Dean Leacock
Leacock was another player who spent a lot of time at Derby County. The defender made 117 appearances for the Rams and has since played for Notts County and Crawley Town. He most recently played for Lowestoft Town in the seventh tier of English football.
