Derby County dropped two points last night after they failed to score in a 0-0 draw with Wycombe Wanderers.

The Rams needed a win to extend their gap to Bolton to four points which would have put promotion in Derby’s hands.

But after last night’s result, Bolton now have control over their own destiny, if they win their remaining games, they finish in second leaving Derby in the playoff places.

Head coach Paul Warne was visibly frustrated after the result in a game where the Rams struggled to take their chances throughout the match.

Speaking to Rams TV after the game, the Derby boss said: “Frustrating, really. We had some really good chances in the first half that we didn't take. We wanted the lads to play with a bit more calmness but in the second half we didn't really create enough chances.

“We had corners and free-kicks but it just didn't fall for us and sometimes it's like that. We've got to try and bounce back on Saturday at home.

“A few of our lads weren't on song, that's probably the best way to put it. I'm disappointed that we only got a point.”

Despite his frustration, the Derby manager did point out that come the end of the season, the point could prove to be valuable.

With the race for second so close between Bolton, Peterborough and Derby, margins are as tight as ever.

He added: “Not many teams will win their last four and on paper this was maybe our trickiest fixture of the four left. This is a difficult place to come and I've never had a great deal of success here.

“It's no drama. The point tonight may be the point that gets us in there or it may not, but there's nothing we can do now. We just look forward to the next one.”

Derby County will be hoping that they can bounce back against Leyton Orient at Pride Park on Saturday.
