Paul Warne's honest take on chances of Ebou Adams staying on at Derby County

Ebou Adams signed for Derby on a loan deal from Cardiff City until the end of the season

The old cliche is that fans should never fall in love with a loan player, however it hasn't taken Ebou Adams long to win the hearts of Rams fans since joining in January.

The midfielder signed on a loan deal from Cardiff City until the end of the season and has made a big impact in the team.

His high energy and 'get stuck in' attitude has really impressed and added something to Derby's midfield that they didn't have before.

The 28 year old has now made 10 appearances since joining and is a mainstay in Paul Warne's starting XI.

As the end of the season is approaching, questions over Adams' future are beginning to appear as many would love to see him make a permanent move to Pride Park.

However, manager Paul Warne has downplayed the chances of a deal getting done. Speaking to Derbyshire Live, he said: "First and foremost he has been excellent and I think the world of Ebou. But this sounds like a football manager answer, which isn't like me, but he's Cardiff's player.

"I suppose you could argue that he's still got potentially seven and I hate to say it but 10 games to keep trying to impress us.

"He's got an opportunity to try and win something here, but fundamentally, he's Cardiff's player. It's probably less likely than more likely."

It would be a great move for Derby if they could agree a deal for the midfielder as he would certainly be ready for Championship football should the Rams earn promotion.

It would address the issue of Max Bird's departure to Bristol City which will come at the end of the season, leaving a big gap in the Rams' midfield.

Adams would be a great long term replacement for the talented Bird. It does seem as though Paul Warne will enquire about a deal, however the question is whether Cardiff City will be prepared to let Adams leave.
