Peterborough are six points behind Derby with a game in hand

For all the talk surrounding Derby County and Bolton’s battle for second, Peterborough United can also still earn promotion.

The Posh are six points behind Derby but they have a game in hand, meaning they still have a chance to go up so long as the Rams lose one of their remaining games.

Peterborough and Derby both come off the back of good wins where both teams won by three goals, plus the Posh have games against Bristol Rovers and Cheltenham Town before the last day; two very winnable matches.

Manager Darren Ferguson was heard to put some pressure on Paul Warne after Peterborough’s midweek win over Fleetwood Town after he said that Derby could still throw away their promotion place.

He said in his post-match interview “It gives us still a small chance of automatic.

“Derby now have to just throw it completely away.”

The comments could be somewhat of a psycological strategy from Ferguson who is the son of former Manchester United manager Sir Alex; he may be taking a leaf out of his father’s book.

Either way, Peterborough will have to be on top form if they are to earn promotion by winning their three remaining games.

That won’t be an easy task as their last game of the season comes against promotion rivals Bolton Wanderers who may also need to win on the last day to beat Derby to that second place spot.

His comments are in a complete contrast to Bolton manager Ian Evatt who has all but resigned himself to a playoff spot come the end of the season.

Paul Warne’s side have all the control as things stand, all they need to do is pick up the points and as Ferguson says not ‘throw away’ their chance at promotion.
