Peterborough United manager sends warning ahead of Derby County clash
Peterborough United manager Darren Ferguson reflects on the Derby County challenge that they face on Saturday
Derby County face a tough test against Darren Ferguson’s Peterborough United side on Saturday as they make the trip to London Road.
Despite Derby’s uninspiring start to the season, Ferguson still believes that the Rams will be a tough test.
Speaking to the Peterborough Telegraph, he said: “Derby have some injury issues, but they still have very good players available. It should be a cracking game and a great atmosphere and I’m confident my players will rise to the occasion.
“We will need to be at our best though. We need to play at our tempo, to dominate the ball and when we create chances we need to take them.”
Last season, Peterborough United pipped Derby to the playoffs on the last day of the season in heartbreaking fashion for the Rams. Derby beat Peterborough on one occasion last year 2-1 at home in August.
However, when the Rams made the trip to London Road, they lost 2-0 in March and will be eager to make amends on Saturday.
Ferguson added: “They had a lot of the ball in the first-half last season without really hurting us and then we were good in the second-half and won quite comfortably.”
He does expect the Rams to add to their squad before they kick off on Saturday, he said: “A lot of last season’s squad is still there, although they have signed Martyn Waghorn and Conor Washington up front.
“And I would expect them to sign a couple of players before we play them,” he added.
The game kicks off at 3pm at London Road on Saturday afternoon.
