‘Turns your head’ - Callum Elder lifts lid on move from Hull City to Derby County

Callum Elder has been speaking about his move to Derby County

Last week, Derby County unveiled their first signings of the summer as they eye a League One promotion charge under ex-Rotherham United boss Paul Warne.

One of the new arrivals came in the shape of 28-year-old left back Callum Elder who joined the Rams from Hull City after his contract expired in East Yorkshire.

Elder has taken the decision to step down a division from the Championship to the third tier but admits the interest from Derby was hard to rebuff once he heard the Rams wanted to sign him.

“It’s a proud day for me and my family. When a club with the magnitude of Derby’s size shows an interest in you, it immediately turns your head,” he said.

The defender has had plenty of success in League One, as he has won the competition twice already, once with Hull City two seasons ago and for the first time with Wigan in the 2017/18 campaign.

He added: “I’ve got a good record at this level and I’m really proud to say that I’ve won the league twice. I know the gaffer has a really strong record himself at this level and he’ll be looking to add more silverware this season.”

Elder has had a lot of experience joining new clubs as he had a period of multiple loan spells early in his career before cementing himself at Hull City, he described the chance to join another dressing room as an “exciting prospect”.

So what should Derby fans expect? Elder claims he can bring the fans real success.

He continued: “I’ve come here to compete in leagues higher than League One. It’s a big responsibility but one that I’m proud to have been bestowed upon me that I’ve been identified to get this club competing in higher leagues and back where it belongs.”`
