12 Olympic 2024 medal winners including Adam Peaty that made Derbyshire proud

The huge 65 medal win made stars of local athletes who are now household names

The fun and Olympics games may be over for now, but what the 16-days-long tournament showed us, was the plethora of British talent that was given time to shine. 

Great Britain came seventh on the global leader board with a total of 65 medals.

Team GB won 14 gold, 22 silver and 29 bronze medals which is an excellent depiction of the nation’s sporting prowess on a global stage.

There was plenty of local talent from and near Derbyshire who had great success at the games too.

Adam Peaty is one of the top UK’s athletes whose specialty of breaststroke has led him to have a jaw-dropping body of work packed with trophies and medals galore. In addition to being an eight-time world champion at the World Aquatics Championships, the Uttoxeter-born athlete is also an OBE at just 29-years-old.

His success at this year’s Olympics saw him come joint second under the swimming category for Men's 100m Breaststroke, earning him a silver medal.

Top talent from and near Derbyshire includes Oliver Wilkes from Matlock, Sophie Capewell from Lichfield, and Ed Lowe from Lincolnshire.

Although we won’t see any Olympic action for another four years, the Paralympic Games are set to delight millions of sports fans later this month. 

Running from August 28 till September 8, there are two sports stars from Derbyshire who will be participating.

They are cyclist Morgan Newberry and swimmer Megan Neave, do keep an eye out for their incredible talent.
