‘No services will run’: EMR services cancelled as Storm Goretti prompts 36-hour line closure

Customers are being advised to check for updates before they travel

East Midlands Railway (EMR) is urging passengers to check for updates before they travel over the next 48 hours amid a line closure caused by Storm Goretti.

The operator has confirmed that no services will run on the Hope Valley Line between Sheffield and Manchester from Thursday evening due to expected severe weather.

Network Rail will close the line between Sheffield and Manchester from 6pm on this evening (Thursday, January 8) until the start of service on Saturday (January 10).

Parts of the Midlands and South Yorkshire have been placed under an amber Met Office warning for snow overnight, with widespread travel disruption expected tonight and into tomorrow morning.

Passengers travelling on other parts of the EMR network are strongly advised to check their journey before setting off, as severe weather may also impact services elsewhere on the network, particularly on Thursday evening and Friday morning.

Those with tickets dated for travel on January 8 or January 9 may instead use them on EMR services before 6.00pm on January 8, or on January 10.

EMR tickets will also be accepted on TransPennine Express and Northern services between Sheffield and Manchester, in both directions, at no extra cost until 6pm on January 8.

No rail replacement bus services will operate between Sheffield and Manchester due to the severe weather conditions.
