The Edinburgh Fringe is one of the biggest platforms for new talent to shine - it is where Richard Gadd debuted his show Baby Reindeer in 2019

A comedy night in Derby is adding an altruistic element to its show, by raising money to support new comics on the scene.

The Happy Tuesday event runs on the second Tuesday of every month and the next one will be on Tuesday May 14, 2024.

Money raised on the night will help Best In Class, a crowd-funded, profit sharing show that helps working class comedians to perform at high profile events including Edinburgh Fringe.

The Fringe is one of the world's largest performance arts festivals and a platform for new talent to shine.

It is where Richard Gadd debuted his show Baby Reindeer in August 2019, before performing at the Bush Theatre in London for a five-week run.

On the night, Maxine Wade is the headline act with support from Will Burns, Patrick Draper, Stuart Dunlop and Lizzy Lenco.

Lizzy is also one of the organisers of the Happy Tuesday comedy night which is part of The Comedy Writers' Club.

The fundraiser holds a special place in Lizzy’s heart, being a working class girl born in Glossop, Derbyshire.

Lizzy said: “Happy Tuesdays aims to bring a diverse range of national and local acts to Derby.

“There is something for everyone and it has a welcoming atmosphere too!

“We love our audiences, we don’t mock them and are very pleased to be supporting Best In Class.

“This is an amazing organisation that supports working class comedians to perform at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

“The comedy act has rising Leeds star Maxine Wade as our headliner.

“Fan club members can bring a friend and you both only pay a fiver, but we would really appreciate you telling your chums about this one.

“Get to see Maxine Wade before she is famous!”
