A hidden pond in Derby is the place to be to enjoy wildlife, bird-watching and fishing.
Heatherton Pond may be popular with locals of the Derby suburb of Heatherton.
However people unfamiliar with the delights of Derby ‘not in the know’ may be missing out on the beautiful nature reserve that is free to visit.
Indulge in a spot of bird-watching, enjoy watching fluffy ducklings swimming across the pond or swans gently paddling in quieter pond nooks.
Heatherton Pond has been welcoming visitors for around 27 years.
It was created as a flood prevention balancing pond shortly after the development of Heatherton housing estate in Littleover, south west Derby.
Managed by the Earl of Harrington Fishing Club the team continue to work hard to improve the biodiversity of the park area and of the pond.
The pond is a great place to visit on a crisp spring afternoon, why not pack a coffee and enjoy Derbyshire’s great outdoors this spring?
