Japan Fest Derby 2024: learn how to wear a kimono and enjoy authentic Japanese food at cultural event in QUAD
Reiki, art and Japanese calligraphy workshops are on the menu, which promises to be a fun day out for people of all ages.
Derby has robust links to cosmopolitan Japan, having been twinned with Toyota City for 25 years.

The agreement may have been signed in 1998, however the special relationship continues in 2024. (You can learn more about the collaboration here.)
One of the city’s top events which also champions Japanese culture is Japan Fest on Saturday July 13, 2024.
It returns to the city for the third time and organisers hope to offer the people of Derby ‘a small taste of Japan.’
It is set to be a fun day packed with music and activities galore, you may even learn something new by immersing yourself in Japanese arts and crafts.

Stalls at Derby QUAD will offer anime, handcrafted jewellery, Japanese calligraphy, eco-friendly clothing and origami.
Activities include Japanese folk singing, live Japanese heavy metal music, martial arts performances and more.
People can also get involved in workshops where they can learn how to put on a kimono, try out calligraphy, and even learn Japanese.
It can be thirsty work browsing pretty trinkets and artwork, so why not tuck into authentic Japanese handmade food? There will be Japanese sweets, bread, sake and more, meaning the entire family can have a fun day out.
